This Title Won’t Make Sense Unless You Know What The Paper’s About, But You Won’t Know What The Paper’s About Until You Read The Title
*(Catch-22)*
By Nathaniel Jones
Considering the Vast number of Characters in Catch-22, attempting to isolate the contribution of one ot the characters to the Bigger Picture of the novel is a daunting task. Add to that the added rule that the character chosen CANNOT be Yossarian, and the task becomes so immense that even the bravest writers would shudder with fear. Nevertheless, I, Nathaniel Jones, shall attempt to tame this wild beast of an essay prompt. The first step to writing this paper, unless I am mistaken, is to select a character to be the basis for the thesis. Since I am up for a challenge, I shall pick one of the relatively small characters, since they are harder. Not only does this extra difficulty, it also has the added ability to increase the teacher’s willingness to extend the deadline. To get to the point, this paper is dedicated to showing the vast impact the character Milo Minderbinder has on the plot of Catch-22. Actually, come to think about it, Milo is rather a major character. Not at all the kind of character that could be described as “small,” or the basis for an extreme difficulty in this paper. As a matter of fact, Milo so greatly affects the story, that to write a paper describing how would be incredibly easy. Easy as Pie, in fact. Which is not to say that pie is simple. To create a good pie takes much hard work, patients, and a recipe.
Many restaurants sell pies. Many old-fashioned mothers, or Modern Fathers, bake home-made pies. The pies available in restaurants are good, but not as good as home-made. Unless, that is, the restaurant pie is above the usual restaurant lever, or if the home-made pie is not very good. There are exceptions to every rule, and the rule says that home-made is better, and according to the rule, that means there are exceptions. Unless there is an exception to the rule about rules. If there were an exception to That rule, it wouldn’t really be a rule. Or, if the rule were true, then it wouldn’t be a rule UNLESS there exhisted somewhere in the world an exception to it. Kind of a Catch-22. Catch-22 is a book, and in this book is a character named Milo Minderbinder. And he probably could have gotten a good deal on pies.
